For some of the Democratic Congress members, President Donald Trump’s annual State of the Union address given on Tuesday night, was not the expected bridge. During the course of the speech, three lawmakers walked out while, others remained back on the House floor but showed their displeasure through their vocals.
Reps. Tim Ryan (D-OH), Bill Pascrell, Jr. (D-NJ) and Rashida Tlaib (D-MI) all left as Trump was giving his speech. Tlaib later on in her tweet on Twitter described the address as shameful and beneath the office’s dignity.
10 House Democrats including high-profile freshmen Reps. Ayanna Pressley and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez decided to boycott the speech. According to Pressley the event is a “scam” while Ryan tweeted the president’s speech as “all fake. ”
The other democrats who stayed back were no less in a complementary mood than their counterparts who decided to walk out during Trump’s speech. Rep. Chellie Pingree (D-ME) says the speech was full of lies and later on twitter she joked about her reason to stay back saying she promised her colleagues a ride back home.
