Fourteen Americans infected with the Coronavirus flew back home on Monday against the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), according to official sources.
The Americans were on-board the Coronavirus-hit cruise ship Diamond Princess. The cruise liner became the Coronavirus hot-spot in February. 1, when the first positive case was reported, and since then the count rose over 600.
The US State Department and the US Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) has evacuated 328 US Americans from Japan from the Diamond Princess back home. But, as the passengers were waiting to board the flight, 14 of them tested positive for the COVID-19 virus.
As per a debate between the State Department and CDC, none of the infected passengers showed signs of the virus. A Trump administration health official and the State Department wanted their citizens back home. However, CDC was against evacuating the infected ones as they felt, it’s re-exposing the healthy passengers to the virus again. When the administration office and State Department didn’t agree with them, CDC requested the media to not include them in the news allowing the evacuation.
Even the passengers are not happy with this evacuation. A retired Nurse, Vana Mendizabal, who was on-board the flight, said those people should not have been on the same flight. She further said they should have been taken to health facilities In Japan. She feels like she and the other healthy passenger’s were re-exposed and are very upset on knowing about it now.
